Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is an origami convention?

A: An origami convention is a gathering of folders from all backgrounds who come together to formally and informally share their passion for folding.

Q: What do you do at an origami convention?

A: The days are organized around workshops where a folder teaches a model and shares their knowledge with a small group. These workshops are given either by invited masters of the discipline or by volunteer participants. There are also lectures and technique demonstrations. The rest of the time is devoted to informal folding sessions and spontaneous folding groups within the convention venue.

Q: Who organizes the Lyon convention?

A: The Lyon convention is organized each year by enthusiasts from the OORAA association: http://ooraa.free.fr. The organizers are volunteers, and the registration fees only cover the cost of inviting origami masters and the logistical expenses of the event.

Q: Who can attend the Lyon convention?

A: To attend the workshops, it is usually enough to master the basic folds, for example the traditional crane. More technical workshops are clearly marked. However, the Lyon convention is not really suitable for complete beginners. Children accompanied by adults are welcome, and entry is free for companions.

Q: Why shouldn’t I miss this event?

1) It is a unique opportunity to meet origami masters in person.

2) It is a chance to meet other folders, share your passion, create new contacts and discover the latest news from the origami world.

3) It is one of the best ways to improve your skills, learn new techniques, and pick up tips and tricks from other folders.

Q: I’m in! How do I register?

A: Registration is available here. You can also book your room at the convention venue, from €25/night, breakfast included.
