Multi-Color Origami

Secret techniques for color changes in origami

Advanced 31 models 192 color pages French + English Color change

With Multi-Color Origami, Mi Wu pushes the art of color change in origami even further. Here, color is no longer just a decorative detail: it becomes the very core of the design, a true graphic language where each fold reveals a hidden intention.

Mi Wu is one of the leading creators of the contemporary Chinese origami scene. Co-author of the book One Water One World, he established his reputation with his first solo book Duo-Color Origami, which was already dedicated to two-tone models and spectacular visual effects.

  • 31 original models exploiting color changes
  • Compositions created from a single square, but also from combinations of two squares
  • Elegant, inventive, and challenging folding sequences
  • A technical article on the design and optimization of a model

When color becomes architecture

In this second book, Mi Wu takes a new step forward. The models exploit not only classic color changes but also constructions achieved by blending two squares, thereby multiplying the graphic possibilities.

Colored surfaces appear, disappear, interact, and progressively build models of rare richness. Each figure becomes a technical and aesthetic challenge for folders wishing to explore new paths in modern origami.

Reviews

The greatest origami masters had already praised Mi Wu's work in his first book . Their reviews testify to the importance of his approach in the evolution of color change in origami.

I like this book a lot! Color change in origami has a long history, but for many years, it was little more than penguins and pandas. It received a major boost with John Montroll's landmark book, Origami Inside-Out, and since then, origami artists have continued to display great creativity in exploring this type of model. But the creations presented here elevate the genre to an entirely new level; the works are clever, yet readily foldable, and show both beauty and inventiveness.

Robert J. Lang

Mi Wu shares with us his highly elaborate and specific design methods for color change. His book Duo-Color Origami is a fascinating read. His concepts are written logically, which will surely inspire many designers, both new and expert, to use them for their own creations.

Quentin Trollip

This is a fascinating book that offers a new perspective on two-color origami design. The author explores many avenues to achieve spectacular color changes in both flat and three-dimensional models. He presents the context as well as his principles for this intriguing field of origami, which any enthusiastic folder should study carefully.

Dave Brill

By taking color change into account, origami design moves to another level. It took Mi Wu only 5 years to deepen this subject. Each work is a painting made of paper. From the day I saw his works, I wondered: how could he achieve this level, how can I learn this magic? Now, I have my answer by reading his book Duo-Color Origami. In this book, you will find the secret of this miracle thanks to the generosity of the creator who provided his thoughts on his process.

Nguyen Cuong

Seeing his models for the first time a few years ago left me stunned. The creations feature convincing folding sequences, with little repetition among the entire collection of origami figures. The difficulty level of the whole book is quite high, and the author dedicated 12 pages to explaining in detail how he designs origami with these color changes.

Shuki Kato

Color change is one of the best resources in a designer's arsenal to make any model more attractive. Mi Wu has elevated the concept to new heights, making two-tone patterns the very subject of this book. The way the author arrives at such complex shape arrangements in origami is quite baffling. The alchemy of his methods unfolds before our eyes with an entire chapter dedicated to revealing his design secrets. Mi Wu's book is one of the most alluring in recent years.

Román Díaz

Multi-Color Origami is an invitation to view color as a design material in its own right: no longer just what you see at the end, but what guides the entire folding journey.
