The easiest way to create an origami!

The easiest way to create origami is through a series of trial and error, known colloquially as "fiddling", that is, making folds more or less at random.

The easiest way to create an origami!

Most likely, the simplest method to create an origami figure is doodling. That is to say, making folds more or less at random on a piece of paper, without a clear objective in mind about what you want to create.

Eventually, you may encounter something that reminds you of an object or animal, or a part of it. This is the moment you must stop playing with the paper and try to get closer to the emerging figure. If it is a whole animal, you must improve its resemblance; if it lacks a part (the legs, the tail ...) you may try to achieve it by folding the part of the paper that you didn't use or, if necessary, by reproducing the folds in a corner of the square on a smaller scale in order to have some spare paper.

Needless to say, you should be able to refold the paper to the point you realized that an interesting outcome was likely. As you can guess, doodling is a very unproductive method, since without an objective in mind and guided only by serendipity, interesting models are rarely achieved. However, doodling has two major advantages (apart from
being fun):

  • First, it requires neither much intellectual effort nor any prior theoretical knowledge about paper folding
  • Second, when it is successful, you will have a straightforward folding sequence.
