The fastest way to create an origami

The fastest way to design a figure is to start from a base close to the model. It can be a traditional base or any base used in a previous design. The important thing is that you understand the base well, as well as its corresponding skeleton figure, i.e. how many paper points result and how they are distributed.

Reusing a base or recycling a design is much more efficient than having to invent a new base every time you design a model. This is the way I often design.

Over the years, my memory has been keeping a set of bases that I like the most; apart from the traditional ones and their blintz versions, other 22.5 degrees bases. I call it my "origami bases database". Here are the six bases from my database used for the models on this book:

Besides being a fast design origami technique, reusing and recycling have an additional advantage: you already know a folding sequence. In this way, if you want to diagram the model, probably you will have the first steps already made.

To discover in detail the benefits of each base, continue reading this article in the book Tinkering with folds by Marc Vigo, teaching origami creation techniques.
