The way Gotani uses examples ... (Leer más) to explain design concepts makes this book way easier to understand than other books on origami design for example Lang's book.
Greatly recommend.

I like this book a lot. The models are explained very well and I know that by being very careful and ... (Leer más) paying close attention to the diagrams and the hints they are all possible for me to fold.
Although I've failed on several occassions at, for instance, Tyrannosaurus, with some perseverance I managed to fold it :)

I took this book just for the theory part, and even just that is worth it.
You can significant ... (Leer más)ly improve your designing skills in a week of practising what the book teaches you.
As for the models, they look good, but they are too complex for me.

I bought this book to learn more about the design process. An interesting complement of Origami Desi ... (Leer más)gn Secrets (ODS), with a refreshing spirit of synthesis of circle-river/polygon packing: it actually resumes in few pages concepts that are explained in ODS using multiple chapters. To complete the explanation of the design process, some explanations on how to create new molecules and how to merge existing ones should be added. This topic is shown but with little explanation. Despite this, I have learned a lot about design from this book.

This book won't replace Origami Design Secrets, but is definitely an interesting resource if you are ... (Leer más) interested in learning about crease patterns. If not you can still enjoy folding the nice models in this book.

Très bon livre. Les livres sur le design manquent, il est difficile de se mesurer au monumental Ori ... (Leer más)gami Design Secret de Lang. En abordant de manière plus simple et intuitive les concepts de cercles et rivières, ce livre je l'espère m'inspirera sans m'intimider. Et il est en français, cocorico !
Les modèles sont relativement complexes mais les diagrammes sont très clairs et une fois le style de l'auteur compris, on parvient sans difficultés à de bons résultats.
J'offre une mention spéciale au tyrannosaure qui se démarque de la multitude de trex en origami non seulement par sa tête impressionnante mais aussi par ses pattes puissantes. Il n'est pas en couverture pour rien !

Ses créations sont vraiment belles : trois étoiles . La partie théorique met en oeuvre les interactions entre le tout et les parties en exploitant un langage purement formel : quatre étoiles .
Par là , il met en évidence le caractère intuitif de la création et la mystérieuse évidence de ses trouvailles : cinq étoiles .

I purchased the book (ebook version) mainly for the info on the design process rather than the actua ... (Leer más)l models. However, I ended up being engrossed with the models and was not able to devote time to fully digest the design theories presented by the author.
Hence, my review shall focus more on the models than the design theories.
MODELS and DIAGRAMS:
Very good and quite challenging. Diagrams are nice. But there some steps that required me to zoom-in to fully understand. Good thing I have the ebook version.
One thing about the design of the models though -- they tend to accumulate a lot of layers. As such you will need to use large sheets and good, thin paper.
DESIGN THEORY:
As I previously said, I haven't really delved into the author's design methods. So a shallow review here....
Focus on molecules as the building block. Compared to text-heavy ODS, the author took the opposite route by presenting more images and few annotations.
I say this book is a really good complement to ODS.

It's a wonderful book and I'm really happy to have ordered it. All diagramms and instructions are cl ... (Leer más)ear and well understandible and I like Gotani's models realy much (especially the elephant!). However most models are relatively complex and require large squares of paper. So unfortunately this book is not for beginners.

Les 14 modèles sont précédà ... (Leer más)©s par quelques pages décrivant le processus de conception de la base du modèle. L'utilisation de cercles et de rivières est expliquée en détail, y compris l'optimisation de l'utilisation des surfaces lors de la création du canevas de plis initial. C'est une bonne base de travail pour qui veut utiliser cette technique pour gérer la disposition des différents éléments du futur pliage à partir d'une approche très technique, qui a fait ses preuves.
* le défi du pliage
Le pliage de chaque modèle est ensuite décrit à l'aide d'un diagramme très détaillé, comprenant jusqu'à presque 200 étapes, certaines comportant parfois plusieurs dizaines de plis, à répéter... Des séquences incroyables, des gestes techniques délicats, un fourmillement de détails, le plieur que je suis est allé d'étonnement en étonnement. Arriver au bout du pliage d'un modèle est une réponse au défi qui est lancé. Le résultat est toujours sympathique à regarder.
Autant je comprends mieux maintenant comment la technique « cercles - rivières » permet de créer la base du modèle, autant je continue à me demander « Mais comment fait-il (ou elle) pour trouver ces séquences de pliage ? ». Le mystère sera peut-être levé dans un prochain livre du même auteur, qui nous dévoilera peut-être quelques uns de ses secrets ?
Je recommande ce livre sans hésitation, mais il s'adresse clairement à des plieurs ou plieuses averti(e)s.
